The team arrived Saturday night safe, sound, but very exhausted after 8 of the 10 members were delayed in arriving to Lisbon by 7 hours, making for a 28 hour travel day. Daniel Bohnert and I (Gwen) arrived on Saturday morning from different departure cities and spent most of the day with the Pavoni family. It was great to get to know our host family more, help out a bit around the house and prepping for the rest of the week.
Sunday the team joined the local church, Igreja Baptista de Belas, we will be putting on the Soccer/VBS camp with for the first 3 days. We shared communion and a time of worship and a message at the church. The original plan had been to join the church for their monthly potluck lunch after, but the water was shut off at the church building and we were not able to. Keep the building in your prayers as hosting camp without a running bathroom will pose a big challenge!
We spent the afternoon having lunch and prepping all the final things. Daniel Pavoni, Rob Rhodes, and Jacob Sepulveda walked around Belas passing out flyers in the neighborhood for the camp. Nancy Soto, Isaiah Thames, Daniel Bohnert and I decorated the church with our carnival themed decorations. Gloria Miller, Kim Simons, and Cyla O’Brien ran errands to pick up the snack food and craft items necessary. Megan O’Brien stayed at the Pavoni’s to play and look after the kiddos so Hannah could have some time to not worry about them.
We all came back to the Pavoni’s for a delicious Greek Gyro dinner Hannah made.
